About
A foundation built on
personal and professional
growth.
Over 27 years of senior executive coaching and placement — built on the belief that the right leader, in the right role, builds teams, produces results, and delivers an exceptional return on investment.
Who We Work With
The leaders we coach and place share a set of characteristics that define not just their careers — but the way they lead.
We work for a small number of senior leaders each year — not because we cannot scale, but because this work demands the kind of attention that cannot be systematized. Every engagement is singular. Every leader is treated as the complex, capable, and consequential person they are.
Intellectually Sharp
The leaders we work with are smart — not just technically capable, but genuinely curious. They think rigorously, ask the right questions, and are willing to challenge their own assumptions.
Driven by Purpose
They are motivated by something larger than personal advancement. They want to accomplish something meaningful — for their institution, for their teams, and for themselves.
Uncompromising Ethics
High ethics are non-negotiable. The leaders we place and coach operate with integrity as a baseline — not a differentiator. How they achieve results matters as much as the results themselves.
Collaborative by Nature
They work well with others. Not because they lack conviction, but because they understand that the best outcomes are built together. They are a profoundly positive force on the cultures they enter.
The Founder
Mike Tyrrell
The founder of Tyrrell Partners spent two decades inside the rooms where consequential decisions are made — advising boards, leading organizations through transition, and sitting across the table from leaders navigating the most demanding moments of their careers.
That experience led Mike to enter the executive recruiting field in 1998. Our first placement rose quickly to CFO — was ultimately named President of a $500 million acquisition, and went on to become CEO. It was proof of a principle that has guided every engagement since: the right leader, in the right role, changes everything.
Over 27 years, we have placed senior executives at the VP and C-suite level across high technology, systems, analytics, financial services, federal contracting, professional services, advisory institutions, and leading national and international associations.
That experience is the foundation of every engagement. Not a methodology borrowed from a business school curriculum, but a hard-won understanding of what leadership actually requires. Our approach is unique — we work with you to help you see how far you can go, and then work collaboratively to help you achieve it.
Based in Washington DC, we work for leaders across industries and geographies — wherever the stakes are high and the margin for error is low.

The Framework
Three principles that guide every engagement
Foundational Clarity
The leaders we work with are not waiting to be discovered. They are actively shaping what comes next — for themselves, their teams, and their organizations. We help them develop the clarity and conviction to lead that process with intention.
Lead Your Future
Together, we design the plan. Not a generic framework borrowed from a curriculum, but a precise, personalized roadmap built around who you are, where you are going, and what it will actually take to get there. Mike works with you collaboratively — helping you see how far you can go and building the path to achieve it.
Strategic Execution
The goal is not just placement. It is the right role — one that matches your capabilities, your ambitions, and the kind of leader you are becoming. Over 27 years, Tyrrell Partners has helped senior executives secure positions that define the next chapter of their careers.
